Hi Irene

Welcome to the forum, the name Floyd doesn't ring any bells. When did you live in Inkerman Street and whereabouts, I lived there on and off from about 1964 to about 1969 my family were there until it was demolished, we lived in Francis St previous to that.

Hi Irene

It would be a waste of time giving my surname as my family's name was different if you really want to know their name I will send it by PM. I used the Britt on occasion but the Railway Club and the Adelaide or the Ashted Hamlet I used more frequently. We lived in Ruben Terrace which was opposite you at the rear of 144. I worked for a little while at the little engineering firm just up the road from you.

Hi all, this picture saddens me it shows just how much of old Duddeston was lost in the name of progress. I wonder what year it was taken, I can see the remaining street and roads at the top of the photo above the railway tracks but from there down to the bottom of the picture is jaw dropping!! is the small building between the two older blocks flats be the bank? if so what was the name of the road or street

Hi Pudding

I would say your photo was taken sometime between 1967 & 1971. The reason being because my photo is very similar to yours and was taken in 1966. I know this not because the date was with the photo but because of the slight difference in the two photos.

If you look at the top right of the photo you can see where they are just beginning to build a block of maisonettes in front of Revsby Walk on Ashted Row. In your photo they are built and complete. I worked on that block of maisonettes in 1966. So if your photo shows them finished it has to be after then. The houses you mention are on Dollman St and Inkerman St and as far as I am aware they were cleared by 1971 so it would have to be before then.

The only thing that I'm wondering about is why they have taken two aerial photos from more or less the same spot so soon after each other.

I would say you were spot on Phil we left Erskine St in August 1966 in your photo our house is still there,in Puddings photo it,s gone as we were one of the last to go they demolished straight away so puddings photo would be 67-68. Dek

Phil/Dek

Thank you both for working out the year of the Aerial photo I posted, as now I will rename the file 1968, I have been having a play around with google earth to try and show the younger generation how much of our neighbourhood of the old Nechells/Duddeston was lost to the redevelopment and the photos that Phil and my self posted taken in 1966/68.the first shot is of today from a satellite the second picture is from a plane in 1945
