Yes thats right, this is the whole photo of The Train. I think I only ever had one crafty pint there that a mate went inside and got and we stood around the side of the pub one summers evening drinking it. You can see the Tom Thumb between the pub and the Tower block.

Hi All  -  I remember the Tom Thumb being built,I used to walk past it on my way to Cato St. North and Ashted Row.It was one of the first pubs in Nechells to have keg beer,Davenports I think, and none of the locals liked it.To gassy they said,I remember Gordon and Madge who worked there.I always prefered the George on Saltley Rd.,not for the beer but for the company.

I know it wasn't a very popular pub and you could always get a seat in the smoke room even at weekends. But when you are young you don't care much about the beer you are only glad you can get in somewhere. I got on great with the first gaffer there I can't remember his name but I remember he was an ex copper. I always thought the Tom Thumb was an Ansell's House, but I could be wrong as I said I never took a lot of notice of the beer back then.

Excuse me if I'm wrong, the photo is entitled as being on Gt Francis St, yet the street sign says it's Little Hall Rd.

Well spotted, the thing is that end of Great Francis St was renamed as Little Hall Rd in the early 60's but most of us locals still referred to it as Great Francis St until all resemblance to the old street had gone. To be quite honest I don't know why they had to rename so many streets.

Steve this is one showing the Train at a different angle when Gt Francis St was all the way down to Saltley Rd the pub in the distance is the Junction and this is the monstrosity  that replaced it, formally the Rocket. Dek

Hello Pudding I,m not sure of the exact date I would say late40s early 50s I notice the tram lines but that dose not mean much what has caught my eye is the wooden fence they must have been building the Tower. Here is your photo of the bottom of Gt Francis St showing the Tower being built in the distance. Dek

The only photo of Inkerman St I have ever been able to find, but it should show your house because it shows the entrance to Homers where I used to work.

It was on the corner of Taylor St at 279 Bloomsbury st. Miss Doris Tucker according to Kelly's 1937. Here is a photo of the shop in 1964.
