Hi blane & everyyone on this brilliant Forum. Ive only just been introduced to this by my Sister & very impressed with individuals knowledge & memory.  Anyway Im living in the N. East of England & have been since leaving Armed Forces in 93. Originally from B.ham having been raised in Nechells. 1 of 11(HONEST). Ive so many crakin memories of the area of Nechells & reading this Forum has opened up the old brainbox & reminiscing with my Sister Gillian has been great. Those Bros & Sisters who still live in B.ham now live in Gt Barr  & near vicinity.      Although not yet read all the posts, once I have it will be nice to share with you all some of my own.   Regards  Paul Seamark

Hi paul

You are a very welcome addition to our forum, large families were not unusual in Nechells. Well lets face it there wasn't a lot else for people to do. I come from a slightly smaller family of seven myself. What part of Nechells did you live?

Hi Phil and all,I was having a sort through some old paperwork I have kept and found an old co-op laundry book of my Gran's that she used to go to on Nechells park road, the coats and trousers always came back on wire hangers that seem to breed in ya wardrob, however they were handy to have around to straighten out and used to poke blocked drains or tie up something. here is a photo of the co op shop on the left side of the photo and a pic of the old laundry book.and as we are on washing and laundry was there ever a bag wash in old Nechells in 60's early 70's? as I personally can not remember one anywere.

Pudding, so these people did your wash for you? I wonder why my mother didn't use something like this. She used to wash everything at home by hand.

Hi Ann, my Dear old gran was in her late seventy's when she was using this service's for all her washing, as when she was a younger woman she did it all by hand in a boiler then out into a maiding tub then a good bashing with a dolly then out of the tub and into the old crock sink for a cold wash then through the wringer as I know as I help her with the wringing hard work for all them Lady's of that generation
