Old Birmingham / Aston Cross
« Last post by Peg Monkey on Today at 01:47:49 AM »
Aston Cross holds a special place in my heart, moreso when I was coming home from school - it was the half-way mark on my commute from Harry Lucas School, Hockley to the Lyndhurst Estate, Erdington. Looking back it seems an odd decision not to move school when my family was re-homed from Heaton St, Hockley c1959. There is something interesting about this pic, (Clue: Ansell's),  I'll post later what it is. Both bus and tram visible - the pic was taken some years before I started senior school so I would not have known trams were running along Lichfield Rd at that time, they had stopped by the time my commuting had started. Homeward bound: I got the Inner Circle 8 from by Farm St School to Aston Cross and then the 64 to Erdington.

I can tell you that there is a copy of the "Trade Winds" in Andrew Maxims "Time Please" (a book about Birmingham pubs. It's almost identical (or identical) to the one posted on here. If you can contact him he may be able to help further.

Many thanks Phil, for the quick response and the advice. As you’ve probably worked out, I found the photographs on a google search before finding them again on your forum. My book is unlikely to be published in the near future, so, I’ll continue to hunt for the ‘owners’ of the photos, but, following your advice, may decide not to use them.

Hi I'm new here!.

My dad, George Frederick Harris is originally from Birmingham. He lived at Brookbank Avenue, Shardend, Birmingham (moved to Newry, N.Ireland late 60s) His parents were Harry and Beatrice Harris. Did anyone know my dad and/or his family?. I think a neighbour that lived next door to them were The Coopers.

Many thanks in advance.
