I had plenty of fourpenny ones as a kid, but my old mum would say "I'll knock you into the middle of next week if don't behave!"

Hello and Welcome Mickey,

Where are you in NZ? I ask as I lived there for over 2 years, liked the country and people, and am still in contact with friends from those days.

hello roy and thanks for your welcome too. yeah, yeah I remember those, especially the wiping the smile off! Just thinking about the sayings made me remember the days of tanners and bobs and Saturday mornings watching cowbags and onions at the local flea-pit. Makes you wonder where these sayings come from.

Mikey,

Sorry to say I didn't get south of Timaru on the east side of 'Mainland'.  I lived in Auckland, and used to get down to Lake Taupo and the 3 mountains whenever I could.
