Joe , in the 50/ 60s it was called Pluvex  after the manufacturer
Don't know if this is what you are looking for

I remember a simpler time, when we called that stuff "tarpaulin".

There were lots of Trade Names for Roofing Felt Pluvex Ruberoid Marley etc but it was often called 'Bitumen' Felt

Mrs.Woen isn't from Birmingham,  she'd never heard of this term,  but she had heard of tarpaulin, bitumin and asphalt, but she'd never heard the word I used.  I'm beginning to wonder if it's a Black Country word, rather than Brummie.
