Hi Dave

Welcome to you, where did you live in Inkerman st. If you look here you will see one of the very few photos of Inkerman street I have been able to find. Though if you look through the thread you will find many other places that you will recognise.

Hi Edmund,

Welcome to the forum, We moved into Inkerman Street c1963 from about half a mile away on Francis Street. We lived just across the road on one of the back terraces. I used the Railway Club at the weekends and if I wasn't elsewhere during the week I was usually to be found in the Adelaide or the Ashted Hamlet.

My family stayed until the street was demolished in 70-71 but I had moved on by 1968. Here are a couple of memory jerker photos for you. Goodrich Street with most of the houses demolished and Marsh & Baxters on Dale End.

Hello Phil
Do you remember Mrs Griffith Pork Butches shop in Duddeston Mill Road. Everything was delivered at lunchtime from Marsh and Baxters.
Many times I stood in the queue waiting for the van to arrive to buy a bag of bones for Mom to boil with the vegetables. Mrs Grifiths had a son,
John. He went to Loxton Street School.
Best wishes
Gerald.

Gerald

By the time we moved to Inkerman Street, Griffiths's Pork Butchers at number 91 Duddeston Mill Rd had gone and it was replaced by a Mrs Henderson's Drapery Shop in 1962.

If you look at this photo taken in 1965 the shop in question is to the left of the space between the shops.

Hello Phil
Great pictures again.
I think the gap was a greengrocers and next to the tobacco shop was George Seeley the butcher. Another place to queue for a large marrow bone.
Keep posting them Phil.
Many thanks
Gerald.
