HP were at Aston Cross adjacent to Ansells, did they have a factory at Five Ways Edgbaston?

Bath Row and Davenports, that's it. When I was about six years old I was in the children's hospital and I used to hear the clanking of metal crates and the clinking of the bottles. Also, when the ward windows were opened one could smell the brewery.

I thought there may have been an error somewhere as I can't ever remember Aston Cross being called Five Ways, oddly enough although as far as I can remember Five ways has always been called that, it been six ways for a very long time now,

I suppose I am the culprit, sorry folks. Are there not five roads going from Aston Cross and for me, six ways is in Erdington.

The Holt brewery based at Holt Street Costa Green was taken over in 1934 and added another 250 licensed houses ,making Ansells one of the largest brewery pub estates in the country.
Was it a vision, or a waking dream?

Strange this, Sheppy started this thread looking for information about a nurse called Thelma.
30 posts later, not a mention of Thelma. ;) :o ??? :-X

As I've said before this is what happens when the OP does not stipulate the purpose of the thread in the title. As the thread grows most people only read the title especially if the opening post is a few pages back.
