The only Thelma I ever knew was Thelma Barlow, you know, her off Coronation Street! I started my drinking career on Ansells mild in the Sheldon on Cranes Park Road, progressed to Bruno and Mild at the Wheatsheaf on Coventry Road and then refined my taste and discovered Ansells bitter and have been a bitter drinker ever since. In my teens I used to frequent the Brum Kavern Club in Wordsworth Road and there they served Ansells King Pin mild, surely the foulest brew ever devised by man if it was a man!

Can we at least keep to the Ansells Brewery part of the thread please, then perhaps we might find the brewer nurse Thelma?

In keeping with this thread. In 1857 Joseph Ansell commenced production as a maltster at the junction of Lichfield Road and Park Road Aston Cross Birmingham. This was the site of seven artesian wells. In 1864 he was joined by his son William and in 1876 another son Edward joined the growing partnership which became Joseph Ansell and sons

This shows several premises being used by Ansells

Not long back we had a relation of the owner of Hawleys Bakery posting on the forum. He said that Hawleys site on the corner of Kyrwicks Lane and Moseley used the be a Maltings before the bakery was built.

On this map it shows the Maltings where Hawleys stood at (A) and the smaller Maltings on Dymoke Street (B). These must have been the Maltings for Ansells Brewery.

My sister in law worked at Ansells for many years from the late 60s until they closed. I still have the old sherry glasses that were sold off (don't know why, it was before they closed) that have Ansells stamped on the glass.
