BevK didn't mean to appear brusque in that last post , but if you had drank it you'd be feeling the pinch nowadays , I loved the stuff but haven't been able to get it for quite some years now. I've now switched to real ales now , cheers

Hi Scipio  .. I didn't think of your reply as brusque in any way so please don't worry ...  my brother was the beer drinker and when he mentioned Brew XI in the same slurred sentence as Ansells he was probably too drunk by then to know what he was drinking ;D O0

Definitely Ansells, Fred.  Used to be sold in the Brum Kavern Club in Wordsworth Road. Must have been the worst pint of Mild I've tasted. ;D

Also served in Rex Williams casino above his snooker hall in the Piccadily Arcade New St, contradictory to what I've read on hear it
was the best pint of mild I ever tasted,That was before I accepted the quest of finding the Holy Grail of bitters , which I must tell you I'm still on that quest Cheers

I always drank Brew X1 , when I changed to bitter in the late 60's , truth is , not a lot of pubs keep it now . mores the pity

Enjoying this thread, even if Thelma has disappeared! Been slowly researching my ancestors in Brum. My paternal Granddad worked for Ansells in the early 20thc as a drayman with horse (I guess) after being in WW1 in the R.A.S.C Motor Corps. Before working up to public house Inspector by the late 1930's. He died in 1941 4 years after my Dad was born, so info is sketchy. Family were living in courts around Aston, Tower Rd, Rocky Lane. I would love to get onto correct track for researching any records left from Ansells. Any clues?
