Dave

Another one of the Gate slightly older and one of the White Tower. I only need to find the Tilt Hammer now, strange its the only one of this group that I never had a drink in.

Found a superb book in a local charity shop. Memories of Birmingham by Alton Douglas published by the Birmingham Post and Mail 1986.

Not bad for a quid. ;D

Which is it Jacqueline, is it the 100 years of photographs. He has done quite a few books on Birmingham. I think I have most of them.

They are very good books, much better than what Carl Chinn does.

Phil,
Got to ask. Sorry if it has been raised before and I have missed it but:

How come you have such a number of photographs of of pubs both old and new -so to speak.  What started you on collecting and how many do you think you have got? ???

Bannion

The reason I have so many photo's is simple, I have a keen interest in local history and I have found that I am able absorb this topographical information better if I have an image to associate it with. I have thousands of photo's on file and I think at the last count 720 of them were pubs some are duplicated but in different years.

All my photo's are local to Birmingham, if I'm out I take a camera with me, If I read a newspaper, magazine or book and I see something that interests me I make a copy. I know this probably infringes copyright regulation, but I do not do it for profit and I would not dream of trying to sell one. So I can't see that it does any harm.

Of course it was the same one Roy, The Greyhound was world famous, the only place you could tramps, beatnicks, and the rich and famous drinking in the same pub, and all because they wanted a pint of scrumpy.
