I remember The Nelson upstairs my last visit was 1966 cupfinal night full of Germans Yates wine lodge docks of white port out the back door and into the Windsor up the stairs to the top bar good days

Look at the frontage, It was called the Castle.

Used to drink in the Castle when a teenager,it used to be were the yanks hung out.Always full of crumpet on a Saturday night.I never ever pulled,never had enough money. :( :( :(

Thanks Phil I noticed the castle resemblance but this would not be any connection with the Warwick Castle would it ??? i think that was nearer Gosta Green. Dek

I don't think there was any connection, the Warwick Castle as you say was further down at Gosta Green and was on Aston Street between Duke St and Sheep St. Here is a photo just before demolition it's on the right side of the photo.
Phil died in 2020. RIP.

Hi, would The Castle at reply 1489 be the same Castle that was the reason for Castle St which ran down from Dale End beside M & S??
