brum pop groups 60s/70s
« on: January 18, 2014, 04:30:34 PM »
I was talking to my grandson the other day while I was playing music from my ipod ,what a load of rubbish he said . Who are they singing ELO I said ,never heard of them he said.  So I had to put him straight  in my opinion we had some of the best pop groups in the country in Brum. Blank look.  As he is a big supporter of Birmingham City FC, I reminded him of the music they play there  Mr Blue Sky . I think I am educating him slowly . I still say we had a lot of great  groups in Brum  in 60s/70s and these groups were the fore runners to a lot of other groups.  I knew Carl wayne  back in the 60s then with The Vikings later The Move , He was a guy anyone could talk to a genuine nice guy .  You can keep The Stones/ Beatles/ etc, its Brum groups for me ( and my mate Simon)...

There was a group called the " Cheetahs". They used to play at the Ritz, Kings Heath in the mid 60's.
Born and Bred in Sparkbrook.

The Move   I think the group was formed by all the members leaving there previous bands and forming a new one, hence the name The Move.

I too knew Carl Wayne, but when I knew him he was only 5 yrs old, as was I. We both had just started school at Stechford Rd, Castle Bromwich and were in the same class, we played together.  His real name is Colin Tooley,  he lived in Chipperfield Rd.
