I don't like the south brum, esp female 'whinge' - much prefer the stronger (not harsher) north brum accent - do not mean BC ones, which are another species!

I didn't know there was a difference between north and south Brummie accents I always thought it was just one. Just shows how much I know.

yes there is a difference between north and south brum not much  if you live maypole all your life and went to the top part of handsworth on the boarder with westbrom   has much has you would find the difference between westbrom and Dudley  and that is  shorter distance than handsworth to the maypole

Being as I was born in West Bromwich I,m starting to wonder if my accent is Brummie. maybe it WestBromKiwi
Lived in Gt Barr for 24 years tho does that count

 hi Maggie I lived in gt/barr for a short time grindelford road and yes there was a big difference  gt/barr had a posh sound   compared to b/heath

I'm a born and bred Brummie and I love the Brummie accent.   O0

Much better than Cockney, Scouse and that horrible northern accent they now use on a lot of programmes such as Big Brother.
