Birmingham bus routes and their number.
« on: May 09, 2014, 11:24:48 PM »
Can you name all the Birmingham bus routes and their numbers from one to I think I seen a bus with 96 on it. But I don't think there are 96 bus routes in Birmingham but I might be wrong.
I think i'm doing this right as its just a bit of fun and something to do.

I will start with number one Moseley College arms.
Next number 2
Was it a vision, or a waking dream?

We left the Birmingham area in 1963, so my memory is somewhat rusty, but before No 2 there was a No 1A.  Can't really remember where it went, but I think Acocks Green was one place it went through, and did it go past the cricket ground ?

Edit: From about 1954 I went everywhere by motorbike so didn't use buses much except at weekends when going to the flicks or somewhere where I had to arrive looking respectable :)

Jumping the gun a bit, and getting my memory back when we lived in Perry Common (left there in 1946) we used to catch the No5 from Corporation Street, the terminus was at the circle Witton Lodge Road. There used to be a recreation ground there that just had to be played in on the way home from Hastings Road school :)

There was also a 5A but can't remember where that went.

Further to Roy One's comment on 29 Bus it went on as far as Hall Green in the opposite direction terminating in Highfield Road
Then there was the 29a which I think was at one time the longest route except perhaps the Outer Circle It went from Great Barr through Perry Barry and town via Hall Green terminating at the Baldwin Pub which is about as far out of Brum without getting into Shirley/Solihull.
As any one tried the new No. 3. If you do make sure you pack a packed lunch and a drink

Royone I am going back a bit but certainly up until the 60s it terminated in Highfield Rd . From town It came along the Stratford Rd through  Sparkbrook, Springfield, into Hall Green Turned right at the Bull into Highfield Rd . I used to catch it to get to the Robin Hood Cinema.

Can't remember any bus route numbers other than the two ring road, No.s  8 and 11.
Much preferred the trams crossing Salford Bridge, 2-78-79. O0
