River Cole
« on: June 03, 2014, 08:17:35 PM »
River Cole flows through a lot of Birmingham estates but which ones do you know? Did anyone used to play in the river as a kid. I used to play in it at Shard End and Kings Hurst where the sewerage works were. . I think Spud said he played in it at Gravely Hill or Handsworth. Did anyone else play in it, if so where ?
Was it a vision, or a waking dream?

Without going on the internet, because that is to easy. I am trying to build a picture as to where the river went, from people who played in the river when they were young.  O0

Loved that Picture Fred. Spent so many happy hours around Trittiford Park and The Dingles as a Kid. I think that I am right but my parents often referred to it as 'Happy Valley'

As kids we used to go to Water Orton and Coleshill to play and swim in the Cole river ,Did not know where it came from . Suspect it ran into the Tame/Trent direction.

Harris

The Happy Valley was the valley in which The Chinn Brook ran, at the turn of the last century there was a whole entertainment complex centred between  the Chinn Brook and the Stratford upon Avon Canal at the point where the canal bridge crossed the Yardley Wood Rd, though the valley itself runs for miles.
