I'm no pensions adviser but to those who have control over their pension 'pot', I'd strongly advise them to seek professional advice ASAP.
I worked for an organisation that disbanded but set us up with good pensions advisers and thankfully, my pension pot was put in a relatively secure place and matured nicely before I exchanged it for annuities. They give me a decent monthly pension and will do so until I pass away.
As for the temptation to take a lump sum from the pot. I'm so glad that I didn't as I've been drawing the pension now for eight years and the total amount has certainly helped with retirement. I could have been tempted to spend a lump sum too quickly!
