And this is on topic because...

It's not really but I consider it good manners to answer a question about our city to a supposed stranger who is supposed not understand our language very well. That was what this thread started about wasn't it?

Thank you for explaining.
what I didn't understand was how a coffee was related to the "big issue".
Except this, of course I can understand all.

I will assume is just a prejudice.  or a joke I don't get, probably I will when I will understand the basis of this prejudice.
I should get from this joke that usually when you have a coffee with a Romanian you are sold "big issue" ?
I could pay the coffee, but now, under the new light, I would ask in exchange the value of that print. How much is it?

Humour is the most difficult aspect of any language for a foreigner to understand.      Our member 'caryonder' made an attempt to be humorous when (in response to your offer, "Who is coming for a coffee?"), he posted:-

i will come for coffee no big issue copys though, ( before anybody complains , this must be taken as a joke)

He was referring to the fact that a kind-hearted person might invite a 'Big Issue' seller to go for a coffee (and maybe a meal, too), so, when he jokingly accepted your offer, he was clarifying that he was just an ordinary guy and NOT a 'Big Issue' seller.

From what he wrote is hard, indeed, to determine if the one who could bring the magazine is me or him.
My assumption is that the initial intention was to consider me bringing those. But thank you for your try.

Nevermind, I just put this at "jokes to be understood when I will learn English".

About bad understanding jokes, I can tell you something funny from my work.
My colleague, a British lady, asked me if I want a coffee.
I answered, in joke, "no, thank you, I am driving"

She was trying hard to convince me that coffee had no alcohol and police have nothing to do with my coffee consumption.

I was unable to make her understand that is a joke. She didn't understood the purpose of such joke, and I have just summarized to her "it was a joke, should make sense but if not, just forget it"

Kia Ora Virgil, here is another for you to think about..

Sometimes when puzzled by anything.it is said

"Don't get your knickers "in a twist"

In plain English that means DO NOT WORRY its a waste of time,
Sorry friend but Brummies even if living a long way from
England have a different sense of humour to lots of others
and can get mis understood.......Always sit back and let
it roll off you.
Have a good day, oh sorry its night for you. .its 9.15am here,   so sleep well instead
do unto others as you would be done by

It was frequently advertised on ITV as 'Kiaora Suncrush' and the advert featured a cartoon girl whose name sounded like 'Aurora' (because it rhymed with Kiaora). 8)

I don't know for how long time I will remain "new to Birmingham".

Not because I become slowly "old in Birmingham", but because I experience some problems remaining.

My wife experience some difficulty trying to support my 2 years contract in UK.
one of my daughters is fine, she learned some English and she likes at school. The other one refuse to realize that other kids of 3 might not speak Romanian :) "they told me something today but they can't speak so I ignored them".

For me, is linear. I have a 2 years project. I can work here, in USA, in Zimbabwe, in Romania, anywhere. I love new challenges and I can adapt anywhere.
If the family council would set a conclusion today, we should go back in Romania.
Nice to meet you,  and I think I will visit this forum from time to time, regardless of the location where I will work.
