I think you have a point there trapio.

Rough Guide is aimed at the young and young at heart. Birmingham city centre ìs very much a young people's place. I also think it always has been and keeps re-inventing itself for each new generation. You can either move on with the changes or resent what has happened to what you used to be comfortable with. I'm no youngster but I welcome the changes and am looking forward to the modern plans being implemented and in fruition in about 20 years time.

You're understandably wrong Joe, as it's not usually wise to assume..

....I knew brum only as a child not a teenager, spending only a few weeks a year from age 13, before leaving 'that house' for good before turning 16.

For many years I worked in commercial planning - city centre and out of town, esp mall / plaza (re)developments in UK and other countries.....

...as such am used to being an instigator of change - with the happy satisfaction of creating employment O0

Trapio, I wasn't talking about you.  :o

I was referring to the Rough Guide clientele mainly and secondly to those who prefer knocking the city.

Birmingham is in the top 10 because it's attractive to those Rough Guide tourists.

Quote from Joewoen,

''I think you have a point there trapio.''

Point now taken Joe - I understand what you mean as ''it certainly looks home to Hooray Henrys and Manky Mandy, Slack Sandra and co....''

Most of my youth was spent not in brum, in a variety of places for various periods from Berlin, Boston, Beirut, Bangkok, Gbangbatok (G is silent), among others on their continents O0

The best was yet to come......

...as only the last was even loosely connected with commercial change. ;D

It's good to see Birmingham had a whopping 32% increase in tourists this year.

Should be even better next year with the likes of the Rough Guide promoting it.

It's good to see Laurence Broderick's bull statue in the Bull Ring being voted one of the 10 best sculptures in the world, alongside the likes of Michaelangelo's David and the Statue of Liberty.

It is also the 3rd most photographed tourist items in the UK.

Bronze or Brass it has become a much loved icon for this age in Brum just as that horrible plastic??
King Kong did for another generation

Birmingham deserves its place as a visitor attraction for its diversity, warmth and vibrance alone something you cannot build in stone, plastic bronze or brass.  I go to town
at least once a week and there is always something fresh to interest me

At least they're not trying to pass off our splendid bull as a single parent that's turned lesbian :o (unlike Broad Street's offering >:( ).
There's no B/S on Planet Malc.
