Buswell & Sweeny Ltd + C H Mountford
« on: January 07, 2015, 01:47:00 PM »
I have uncovered 2 original full size posters dated possibly around the early 1940s.
One is from Buswell & Sweeny Ltd who appear to have made engineering parts.
The other is from C H Mountford who made small tools they had an address which was
68 Nechells Park Road.
Can anyone shine a light on the history of these companies?

Hi Denise

Welcome to you, I have had a quick look at both of these companies and I don't think there is anything historically significant about either of these two companies and they are both dissolved now as far as I am aware.

Buswell and Sweeney's premises were at the junction of Watery Lane & Bolton St Bordesley near to the canal wharf. CH Mountford's premises were the old White Swan public house on the corner of Nechells Park Rd and Cheatham St that must have been taken over by them when I suppose it closed shortly before the war.

Denise

Sorry, no the pub, the premises and the business have long gone, Here is a photo of The White Swan and a photo of the café that must have took over after C H Mountford quit the premises. A sort of before & after.

I used to own a Zeiss 'Tenax' camera; it's interesting that the two companies seem to have been using the same word without needing to resort to litigation. O0

There's no B/S on Planet Malc.

As the word tenax is Latin and has many meanings mainly "grasping, stingy, clinging, frugal, obstinate" I doubt there is little control over who uses it. A quick check on the internet shows many company's using Tenax as a part or whole of their trade name.
