Cheers Phil, I think the photos I have maybe from the other side of water by old Walsall Road, lots of farmland, my grandmother and her cousin were inseparable when they were young, went everywhere together.

Hello Everyone
12 of us from Loxton Street School went on a trip for a days work experience down the coal mine. It was a great day out and amazing to see pit ponies working. Very hot down the pit but something we would never forget.
Did any of you go down the pit.
Gerald.

Gerald,
For Brum that's a new one on me.  About 5 years ago we payed a visit to Big Pit Blana Gwent. It must have been very hard work. The stables were there with the horses names on each stable that would have lived down there.

I remember that so well. The garage was just on the left.

Where that car is in the distance, I think that was the 15 bus terminus to Whittington Oval. That and the 16 coming the opposite direction must have been one of the longest bus routes in Birmingham.

We also had a visit down the Hamstead coal mine, from my school in Oldbury, that would have been about 1954 or 55.

My memory of it was how warm and dry it was, and quite spacious, at least where we were taken.

I remember them as both being the number 16, both ways. Whittington Oval and Yardley. The 1st bus stop into the city was outside the Beaufort Arms. During winter it was always a toss up as to whether you waited there or tried to get to the terminus to get a warm seat before the bus left.

Thinking back and I'm going a long way back they may have changed numbers in town 16 to town then 15 and visa versa.
