Hi Susan, I do remember Mrs Smith from my time as a paper boy for Hands newsagents on Ravenshill Rd, amazed she still worked there for so many years as I stopped being a paper boy in 1958!!She was a lovely lady, helped the Hands settle in when the first bought the shop from the Masons, Mr Hands had,nt got a clue at first!!I,ve looked at the shops on Google, what a sorry state they are in eh? Perhaps 1955 when this photo was taken was a little before the times you describe, but I don't think there would have been any major changes.
Phil died in 2020. RIP.

First shop--Whettons Post office,Chemists,Hortons News agent,Eyles butchers,Chip shop,And lastly-Dodds greengrocers....KC.

almost right buddy, Whettons, Phazeys(chemist) Hortons then Hands(paper shop) Eyres(butchers) Collins then George(fish shop) then Dodds. I,m only on here just now as it,s too hot outside, in the 40, s and no wind, sorry to rub it in!!

Can someone remember the name of the wood work teachers name 1957/1960 I still have the money box I made plus the hoe in mr Bonds class
When I was there 1954-58 the woodwork teachers name was Mr Buick, metal other teachers were Mr Collins, Mr Hudson, Mr Chitty (art) Mr Pratt P.T. sports......

old school mates  have any noted how when referring to a teacher we all ways say  mr or miss  us older one do could it be that we had respect for the teachers   
each day is a blessing and I bless each day when it comes
