Hi Ian now you mention Castle Bromwich Junior School I know where your are. I remember walking down Kyter lane on our way to Pimple Hill just as they were building the houses and always said I would live down here one day. Fortunately or unfortunately it didn't happen. I should know better this post should really come under Shard end and Castle Bromwich thread.

Hello Townie,  sorry to mislead.  Bentley road isn't in Shard end, it's near the junction of Hurst lane and the Chester road.  I was just trying to show when The modern Shard end estate was started. Shard end was just up the road from our school hence the interest.
To answer Ian's question I think Johnny Halford lived in Acacia Avenue.

Hi Townie, I realise that we have strayed slightly off the topic but I understand your confusion. We always called the much smaller school in the centre of the village 'Castle Bromwich village school' This website will probably clarify the situation http://historyofcastlebromwich.jimdo.com/castle-bromwich-through-the-ages/20th-century/schools/

When the village school was demolished, some flats were built on the site and my mother and I moved into one of these from our house on the Chester Road opposite Kinghurst estate in 1969 after my father died.
Let's make the best out of a bad situation.

Hi Goldilocks if your first name is Joy and second name begins with C there's a very good chance.

The social club at the bottom of Dunton Rd was Yorkswood Social Club. My dad was one of the founding members. There were allotments on the site originally. We moved into Dunton Rd in 1961 . We came from a slum in Aston!  Thought we had landed in paradise when we moved into a brand new maisonette with an indoor loo.

I lived in Laburnum Avenue No 89 from 1954 and when my sister was born we moved to 126. I remember my friends then were Ronnie Mason and "Crickey" O'Halloran and Chris Coffey

Hi Pete I don't remember any of the names you put forward but I know a couple you might remember. Brian Cope he was a milkman lived by the Punchbowl. Tony Sedric not sure if you spell his name like that he was a tattooist by the name of Tony Lynx had a shop in Erdington. Joy Cooper who lived in Silver Birch. There are a lot more but names escape me at the moment. Another I've just remembered, Susan Horton lived in Meriden Drive.

I thought we might bring up Kingshurst again as it hasn't been mentioned for over a year. Are there any new members that have any memories of Kingshurst?
