The same happened to the Floozie as has happened to practically every other water feature in Birmingham it leaked and nobody in Birmingham, could suggest a way of stopping it without spending trillions of pounds. I'm afraid that Birmingham does not have the best of records when comes to fountains or water features. I wouldn't like to even start to account for those that have gone on the missing list over the years.

Ah that explains it, and explains why the one in Erdington suddenly disappeared, although kids did sometimes putting washing powder in that one and the street would be full of bubbles, must admit it was quite funny though when that happened. :)

it was a regular occurrence with the fountain in Chamberlain Square, but a bottle of Fairy Liquid gave the best results (speaks a man with experience).

Were you a juvenile delinquent then?  That's not a phrase you hear anymore.

Never a delinquent well not in the Frankie Lymon sense, though a bit wild maybe. This wasn't down to me (first photo) but I was very likely somewhere around when the second photo was taken because I tried to make it every new year until they started boarding up the fountain towards the end of the 60's.

Phil,
Great pictures, happy days.  Interesting article, don't suppose it was evaporation that was causing water loss.  Maybe pigeons drinking it!!!

Thank you both Coastal and Phil for taking the trouble to sort the pictures and article out.  Looks much better with the water.

As a regular Eggheads fan I was certain of the answer to 'in which city  is the statue nicknamed' Floosie in the Jacuzzi' based.
Of the multiple choice  offered, no Birmingham.
The answer was Dublin, they have had a statue called Anna Livia since 1988 which they christened Floosie in the Jacuzzi.
We must have pinched the name in 1993.
