Winstone the tortoise gone.
« on: May 26, 2016, 12:58:31 AM »
I was in the garden the other day and had took my tortoise out for some fresh air after her long sleep. I was just doing a bit of gardening and took my eye of her for a minute or 2 and when i turned round and she was gone. I had Winstone for 4 years from a little baby. You might think Winstone is a peculiar name for a girl but its not till there about 4 you can tell the sex. I searched the garden top to bottom inside and out but there was no trace of her. Now I know nobody came into the garden because I was there. The only thing I can think of is that she must have got under a fence and someone has picked her up and made off with her. I have asked all around but sadly no joy.

I had several tortoises when I was a kid and they were forever racing off somewhere or other so that I had to search for them. One of their favourite places to bury themselves and hide was under the rose bushes. The manure seemed to attract them.

If she has gone to ground and buried herself does anyone have any idea how long they can survive on their own? Food wouldn't be a problem as there are lots of plants and dandelions to eat in the garden.

Hey Fred are you the notorious tortoise knicker?  Sorry this forum don't allow me to post similes if it did, it would be the fourth and last one on the row. Someone told me I should have tied a balloon to her, I thought they had been drinking and then I seen a video of a tortoise with a balloon tied to it and it was brilliant you could track it anywhere, just follow the balloon. as long as you don't have rose bushes.
