Thanks townie for those pics of the traverser, especially the one with the tank engine on it. It brought back many memories!

I hope younger people now realise the difficulties there were when having to move the loco to the other end of the train when there was no third track to alllow free movement between the trains.

No such problems these days with driving cabs at both ends!

Evening Townie and co

I hope you filled the tender with coal Townie and got the train on the move again. You are posting some great pictures please keep doing so.

Serious Warning.....We are running out of Sulphur in the earth in Britain. In Lincolnshire they have started spreading Sulpur on the
fields. Without minute traces of Sulphur our plants will fail to grow properly and become disease ridden.

Keep up the good work Townie...Take care...Diggory

Hello Townie

The lad on the BSA Motor Bike has just knocked on the door. The telegram said 20 tons best Welsh steam coal will be dropped on Townies doorstep at six in the morning. You have also been issued with a brand new shovel and that will be left on top of the coal.

Horse liniment was what my Dad always used for back ache.

Best of luck and just keep shoveling....Kindest regards...Diggory

Diggory Have you never heard of slave labour I know the Poles work for nothing but I come from Zanzibar and in my country we don't shovel anything. We are not allowed, the reason we have no horse liniment for bad backs.

Morning Townie
That coal has got to be at Washwood Sidings for 11.00 am this morning. its for the Garret engine used there. Lets have your address and I will send some liniment.
Get shoveling and find, if you can, pitures of Washwood Heath sidings and engines please. Used to go there in the fifties.
Take care Diggory.

I'm not sure of it is on here or somewhere else that a mate of mine John Knight (signman on here) told the story of the booking hall sign that was rescued from Snow Hill station when it was demolished.

The sign was rescued by a company that was on the opposite side of Livery Street to the station, they in turn employed John to renovate the sign. I believe when Moor Street was renovated they donated the sign for use in the station and it now has pride of place over the main entrance.

The first photo is sign over the old booking hall entrance the second shows John renovating the sign, and the last shows it over the entrance at Moor Street.
Phil died in 2020. RIP.
