RIP Kenny Baker a Brummy who played the little robot in Star Wars. He died aged 81 after a long illness.

Sorry it's a little late to respond to this article. I live in the Preston area now as did Kenny Baker.

The local papers and TV reported sympathetically on his passing and we saw pictures of his funeral in St Annes. He was taken there in a Rolls Royce car which apparently he loved. Many stars turned out and messages were even sent from the USA. He seemed to have such a wide circle of friends and they all seemed to say the same thing - "We adored Kenny and he was such a kind and generous man". How nice.

A further note from my memories of Kenny that was reported at the time of his passing - he called R2D2 his dustbin! He didn't like being inside it but knew that he had to perform the role so he simply got on with it without a word of complaint. Sadly, he was too ill to take on the role towards the end. What a trooper he was.

He was often seen around Preston driving his Rolls Royce which, to those who didn't know him, seemed rather unusual. He was always smiling and it was infectious.
