Charles Napier pub, Gooch Street, Birmingham .. 1960's
« on: September 02, 2016, 10:29:40 PM »
Hi, my mom and dad use to run the Charles Napier pub in the 1960's. Do you know how, I can get hold of photos from 1963-1966? And how do get hold of anything with mom and dads name on?
My dad passed away, and recently my mom was saying, she would love to be able to get Ho,d of something, that she can keep. I hope this makes sense

Thank you for the photos, I really appreciate it. Do you know, how I can access history on previous landlords during the 1960's?

Hi again

Mom has just told me she ran this pub from 1965, and the other pub they ran in 1967, was the Small Heath Tavern, on the Coventry Road.

I'm afraid that Kellys directories did not (usually) list the landlords of pubs in the 1960s & 70s, probably because many were changing quickly. However the online electoral rolls  show that 1955 it was occupied by James & Hilda Cartmell; in 1957 Charles & Jean McCarte; in 1960 & 1962 Peter & Gwladys Gorrie; and in 1965 Harold & Olive Witherspoon. Intermediate and later years are avaialable at the central library

Harry Witherspoon also had the Trees on Bristol Road at one time.

My brother was also a manager at the Trees many years ago.
