I remember going to the Charles Napier when I was 9 or 10 with a school friend - Alan Weatherspoon - whose parents took it over in the mid-60's. We were at Greet Primary School together. I don't recall what we drank !

I'm afraid that Kellys directories did not (usually) list the landlords of pubs in the 1960s & 70s, probably because many were changing quickly. However the online electoral rolls  show that 1955 it was occupied by James & Hilda Cartmell; in 1957 Charles & Jean McCarte; in 1960 & 1962 Peter & Gwladys Gorrie; and in 1965 Harold & Olive Witherspoon. Intermediate and later years are avaialable at the central library

A long shot but would anyone have any info on this Charles McCarte or able to point me in the right direction? I’m fairly certain he is my Grandfather.

The online electoral rolls shows Charles McCarte in 1947 being at 27 Golden Hillock Road with 7 other people, only two of which had the same surname (so was presumably flats or a lodging house). In 1955 He and Jean are listed as at the Big Bulls Head, Digbeth (75 Digbeth). No other hits came up., but the online rolls do not cover every year, and you would have to consult the hard copies at the library for many years

Thank you for this. Sorry, I’m new to this, can you advise on how I can view the electoral role? Or is it subscription based? Again, thank you for your reply.

They are available for free at the central library. Online  they are on Ancestry and also on https://www.midlandshistoricaldata.org/, but bothe these you either have to pay or have a subscription
