Then & Now
« on: October 12, 2016, 01:34:48 PM »
This idea I believe is new to this forum, but it works well elsewhere and is well received. The idea is to show an aged image of a street, location or building and then another image if the location today. Sometimes the difference is hardly discernible, but the difference in other cases can be unbelievable.

In this first set of images they are a bit more than just before & after at it shows the history of Great Queen Street from being a street through the changes of Queens Drive to todays entrance of Grand Central Station (New Street Station to us Brummies).

Remaining in the City and not that far from the location of the first post, how about these two Bulls with 50 years or so between them.

I know which version I preferred, but to be honest I've yet to visit the latest version, even though I have been to town many times since it was built I have yet to find a reason to visit the Bull Ring itself.

A few noticeable changes in Hill Street, including the loss of the Golden Eagle.

Though not a religious person I will always mourn the loss of a beautiful building. Gone from the church of the Messiah to perhaps the god Bacchus?

Another look along Broad Street as it was from outside The Prince of Wales Theatre and today's Symphony Hall & ICC.

We are now at the end of Broad Street looking back toward Broad Street across Five Ways from Calthorpe Road.

Thanks for posting these.

I wonder if they ever found the missing Bull Ring bulls?

Judith

Was it on here that I said that I had read a report of the discovery of half of one of them on a rubbish skip during the demolition of the Bull Ring Centre?

How do you post 2 photos side by side? I have quite a few to post.
Was it a vision, or a waking dream?

Moving out now to the suburbs, this is the junction of Sandon Road and Hagley Road. Another one with big changes.
