Now this is what I would describe as bland.

I remember that new building going up & being upset at what they demolished to put it there.

A bit more blandness for you, looking down Park Road toward Aston Parish church.
Green blandness though  ;)

Phil I used to love looking at that crow or whatever it is with spectacles on
I wonder if it still exists somewhere, in some collection or other.  Would make a great museum piece now.

I have no idea, but I would hope it was. I'll see if I can find out anything.

We are now in Balsall Heath a stones throw away from Calthorpe Park at the Cox Street West end of Clevedon Road. The bomb site behind the two ladies would have been the site of the Parker Osborn factory that was bombed out during the war.

Wow, look at that completely vacant site there - early 60s? Three completely different buildings on that corner.

That completely vacant site you mention was know (and still is by some) as The Big Top, that is because after it was bombed during WW2 it was cleared and used for circus performances and when it wasn't being used by the circus it was used as a car park. It served these purposes right up until that section of New Street, High Street and Union Street became the first site to be redeveloped in the mid 1950's.

This set of images show the progression of the big top site.

I did wonder why it was called that!  Now I know.

I remember the post office at the back of Smiths being called the Big Top post office & still think of there as that name.
