My Nan and Grandad used to live in Elmore Road and I remember as a kid standing in the garden watching the steam trains go past. Great memories. I also went to Whittington Oval school in about 58,59.

I haven't been able as yet to find much out about Whittington Oval. But I have found something, Spencer Davies of the 60s group Spencer Davies Group was a former teacher at Whittington Oval Junior School.

Joined this excellent site today, and seeing the photos of the No. 15/16 bus brought back a lot of memories. I was born in Lea Hall Road in 1947, moved to Great Barr (28 bus terminus) then up to Walsall Road, behind Clifton Cinema, so quite handy for the 15/16 bus at Hamstead.
But this got me thinking! What was the thinking behind the 15/16 route? Anyone have any ideas? Was it anything to do with the colliery at Hamstead?
Incidentally my youngest son attended Whittington Oval School, when we moved to Stechford in 1980. A circular route I think!
