Taxi driver Wakelin's Street Guide

The Wakelin street guide was a small yellow book with all Birmingham St, roads, etc, named
I ,like most other Birmingham Black cab drivers used on a daily basis.... it was quicker than using an  A to Z book map, and cheaper.... I started driving a taxi in 1974 to present day      Tom[/size]

That 'funny little book' was obligatory for ALL Birmingham Police Officers. Your first task would be to go to a newsagents and buy a copy. In those days if people asked for directions they expected the bloke in the helmet to know the answer. You looked silly if you didn't. After all the public didn't know you were 'fresh'!  :D Wakelins served me well until I learned my 'patch'.

That was when Bobbies were Bobbies; dressed all in blue, and NOT yellow!
