death in claverdon bombing
« on: July 17, 2017, 08:23:27 PM »
What would have been my uncle Thomas Edgar Harrison was killed in a bombing raid in claverdon street 10th april 1941 it is recorded on the barras site as clarendon street but his death certificate states claverdon street is there a clarendon street in nechells, Duddeston is where his death is registered as i cannot find any record of a bombing raid in birmingham in that area in april 1941 , i would be grateful for any info.

There is no Calverdon St, but is  was a clarendon St, though to my mind it was Aston, not nechells. The map c1950  seems to show all th ehouses still standing in the street then, though they could of course hav ebeen repaired.

Mike

There was a Claverdon Street in Nechells it ran from near the bottom of Great Francis Street to Bloomsbury Street and the Railway pub was on the Great Francis St corner. It disappeared in the 50's.
