Anybody been the victim of Fast-Tracking? I have, looking back I can't believe I didn't see it coming, but then again I couldn't have done much about it anyway.
Here's the irony, when the Londoners took over, the beneficiery and me (the victim) both got called into the new boss' office and were told We've completed our plan for the re-organisation and you don't form part of it.
The Lord giveth and the Lord taketh away.

Is Fast Tracking obsolete? - It may be according to a recent TV report featuring a 20 year old who was appointed, straight from college, to the position of senior manager, apparently he possessed the very latest knowledge of Digital Media Platforms, which was crucial to the company's operation, it got me thinking.....will the Technological Revolution, which brings developments by the minute, shorten careers?

This Topic has been quiet for some time so I thought it needed bringing back into the limelight and wot better way than with a reminder of an outstanding Birmingham enterprise......

It was ironic when my father, as a youngman, left his home town of Caerphilly, South Wales in the 40s to come to Birmingham to escape working down the pit that the only work he could get was down the mine at Hamstead Colliery, but it wasn't long before he got a job at a non-ferrous metal rolling mill: The old firm of Earle, Bourne and Co (became Delta Metals) where he spent most of his working life, on permanent nights: 4 nights per week, 12 hours per night. :-[
Peg.
Peg, my dad left the pits of The Rhondda only to end up in Hamstead pit as a reserved occupation. I did a bit of work for Delta Metals in the 70’s as a contractor. I can’t remember which site though.

Well Peg, if I’m related to you, that means you could related to Frederick.

When they moved up to the Brum, they'd already got jobs at the Bakelite. They'd been recruited while in the valleys. Off they went on a coach and ended up renting rooms in St Paul’s Rd just off the Stratford Rd.

You’ve got me on the image, I’ll make a guess, had Hampstead closed before the pit became NCB?

Not sure about that Gw, but there may be a member out there who could shed light on that - my deliberate (?!) mistake: sign should read: Hamstead Colliery.
When my dad moved from Caerphilly to Brum c1945, to escape the pit, I believe he lodged in a house near Hockley Brook.

Auto and Industrial Radiator repairs, Birmingham.

When I moved into my place in Mid Wales just over 40 years there was an old Ford Model Y 5cwt van in the field. It had gone a bit to far for renovation. These vans were produced between 1932 - 1937. Today I was doing a bit of clearing up on the field and found the Radiator for the van.

There is a brass label on the radiator, it’s obviously been repaired in the past. The label reads ‘Auto & Industrial Radiator Repairs Birmingham’. Anyone have any information on this company? I’ve had a look on-line, however I can only find the more recent Radiator repairers.

Hello Spud, no not repaired, I was more interested in the old company. Thank you though for taking the time to search.

I’ll probably low-pressure wash it off and stick it with my other objects of interest. It gives my son something to moan about, taking up space in the workshop. It’s probably 85ish years old.

Gw, When I worked for Marsh & Baxters in the garage we used a firm in Gt Listers  St  for our Radiater and petrol tank repairs. It was just before the traffic lights by Delta Metals towards Gosta Green. Think it was ADAM ST
