Searching for a street in Ladywood area - 1894
« on: August 01, 2017, 04:46:14 PM »

I've found the Baptism record of my Grandfather from 1894 for St John's Parish, Ladywood. The address given appears to be "93 Ram St". But I can't find this street on the map - does it still exist? Or could this be another street (perhaps with an abbreviation)?

Would anybody know of such a street in that area?

Many thanks for any help.

I think that you will find it may be RANN Street.
Google Rann Street there are old Photographs on the Old Ladywood Website

Thanks 'Spud' - looks so obvious now! Would you know what the area would have been like in 1894? I imagine the houses must have been pretty 'new'.

Hi Tim

Welcome to you, this is a photo of part the Rann Street area shortly prior to demolition in the late 60's or thereabouts part of a series of photos taken by member mikejee at that time. When he comes on the forum, as I know that he has more of the area perhaps he might be able to sort out one of number 93 for you. I would imagine that the houses you reefer to in 1894 are the same that were being demolished when Mike's photo were being taken.

Here is a photo I took of Rann St,from Wood At. The block includes nom93, which I think is  the one marked with an arrow. If not then it would be the one next to it towards the camera. It can be seen that at least some of the houses were still occupied

Wow, thanks so much for the photos - never expected to actually see the house!

How many rooms would these houses have had?

The houses are shown on the map to have a small extension out the back . Would think there would be two up and two down in main part, and if it was a single story extension then one other, or if a two story then two other rooms. any one knowing the area better might be able to be more certain
