Documentary about kids in nechells
« on: August 02, 2017, 08:50:16 PM »
Hi all,
Came across this site whilst looking for a documentary film about kids in nechelks Birmingham probably filmed in late 60s to 70s,
It was filmed in the church in Dollman street and although I believe I was in this documentary, I've never seen the film,
I was born and bred in Alma Crescent and went to saint Vincent's school then on to Duddeston manor ,
I've friends who I grew up with and they've seen the film many years ago and I still haven't,
I've no idea what the film is called so it's a bit of a long shot and hope you fellow Brummies can help me out,
Thanking you all in advance,
Kevin

Hi Kev

Welcome to you, I don't have any information of the film you are talking about and hopefully if you do come across it you will let me know the name and where I can see a copy. This is the only film I know of about kids from around that time.

Hi Gerald,
I can't remember the name of the church but I can tell you exactly where it was,
Looking down Dollman street from Alma Crescent going towards saint Vincents school, it was half way down the street on the left hand side,
Opposite on the right hand side there were a few houses set back from the road, they were the only houses around that area that were set back,
Hope this is of help to you mate 👍

Gerald.

As far as I am aware the building survived until it was demolished around 1970. The times I have walked up and down that street and I have no memory of the building at all.

One of the kids just starting school was a Christian Iraqi refugee which left Iraq because of persecution he probably had to leave Syria as well now.
