Stadium Pershore Road/Balsall Heath Road?
« on: August 22, 2017, 05:31:23 PM »
I've been looking at an A-Z circa 1959-1961 which shows a stadium situated within the quadrangle formed by Pershore Road, Balsall Heath Road, Belgrave Road, and Varna Road. I lived almost on the corner of Belgrave Road and Varna Road between 1957-66 and I don't remember it. My only theory was that it was the Wycliffe Ground that Warks CCC used before the Edgbaston ground was opened, but I suspect I am wrong on this.

Anybody any clues?

regards

Peter

Here is a map c 1950, showing the exact position of the stadium in pink

Thanks Mikejee

The position of the stadium is shown differently on my A-Z; i.e. it is on the Varna Road side of Pershore Road, whereas your map shows it on the Bristol Road side. Perhaps my A-Z is wrong or the stadium moved across the road at some point.

Do you know what sports were put on the stadium?

Regards and thanks again

Hi Mikejee
further to my earlier reply, thinking about it I suspect that your map is correct because had the stadium been situated Varna Road side I would have surely seen it at some point and remembered it whereas I didn't have cause to go near the Bristol Road in those days - just Bristol St and Horsefair  for school

Regards

Peter
