Did you know the locals guys round there, Mark, Adam , Carl, Ian, Charlie, Gary, Martin etc.

Hi

I knew a bloke called Paddy that lived there late 60's early 70s before he got married

I moved there in 1980 and left Rickman Dv in the mid 90’s.

It was a great place to live.

It would be good to get this particular thread moving if there are people who can relate to Lea Bank and Rickman Dv.

I think your problem may be that most of the posters on here probably remember Rickman Drive as part of Bell Barn Road, It only became Rickman Drive after the second rebuild.

Hi Phil

That’s interesting, I didn’t know that.

When was the 2nd rebuild????

I moved there in the March of 1980, and had a very happy young adulthood there.

Thanks for your input, very interesting.

Hi

Just had a quick look at some archive, it was Rickman Drive back in 1958 so hopefully some may know of it in the 80’s.

Sorry I didn't realise that the bottom end of Bell Barn Rd (the level bit) was renamed Rickman Drive in the 50's. I thought that idea came from the 2nd attempt of a rebuild in  the 80's. Prior to the 50's the area was known as Bell Barn estate but after the German bombers had finished with what was never a very attractive place consisting mainly of back to back houses, back courts and terraces it was decided to remodel the estate. The old back to backs were replaced with maisonettes and high rise flats the area then became known as Lee Bank. At the end of the 70's it was decided that the maisonettes has to go but uncharacteristically they decided that most of the high rise flats would remain. This being done the area was once again renamed, this time as the Attwood Estate.

I've added a couple of photos of Bell Barn Rd / Rickman Drive from before and after the 50's remodelling.

Hi Phil

Thank you for that, it’s great to see how it looked.

I remember the maisonettes as I lived in them close to the shops, fish n chip, Ron’s the barbers etc.

Great days in the 80’s.
