This came up in one of the car threads some time ago. Read last Wednesday: "On this day in 1972 the Volkswagen Beetle broke the record held by the Model T Ford for the number of cars made" It was something over 15,000,000.
We had a Beetle when I was little.  It was battleship grey.  We had a metallic pale green Ford Escort mk1 after that.  It was a great car that one, we never had any problems with it, but got sold & replaced when my brother was born as mom said we needed a bigger car.  The replacement was a horrible beige Marina Coupe that kept breaking down  :(

VW Beetles-21,529,464 built
15,444,858 in Germany incl. 330,251 Cabriolets and 3,350,000 in Brazil.

Not a British car but thanks to the efforts and dedication of Major Ivan Hirst (1 March 1916 – 10 March 2000) the VW brand grew from a single factory to a global group.
Don't be afraid to stand for what you believe in, even if that means standing alone.

Judithm, you mention the Mk 1 Escort. I went to buy some hay today from a local dealer. In the barn and in good rallying condition was a Mk1 Escort Mexico, still taken out on historic Rally's. There was also some Subaru Rally thing next to it. But I only had eyes for the Mexico......
