I hear the steam trains most days and see them now and then  the sound travels across the fields  when the train is on its way to bridge north
each day is a blessing and I bless each day when it comes

Steam engine whistles do carry their sound over wide distances.  It is not unusual to hear one over two miles away - given favourable or no wind directions ans it is always pleasing to hear.  Hooters and klaxons have a much shorter sound range.

Anyone got one of the limited edition Hornby Tysley train sets. They were made a year or two back. A few still available for about £200

If you are looking for one Rails of Sheffield have one for £176.50 There were only 1000 of these sets made.

townie, you mentioned you work at Tyseley. I had some in-laws worked there in 60's & 70,s William (Bill) Gough, was a shunter then a cleaner as his health failed and George Arthur Bradley, shunter driver, they both passed away in the 70's

countrylad It was 1990 when I was at Tyseley so I'm afraid I wouldn't have known them.
