Johnny Dankworth in Handsworth Park
« on: November 18, 2017, 07:51:02 PM »

I remember going (with Brian Finch) to a Johnny Dankworth concert, that I believe was in Handsworth Park - possibly late '50s. I cannot find any reference to it. Did it happen or am I dreaming (or just senile)?

Hi Jim Welcome to the forum, I'm not a jazz fan but I'm sure you must be right because I remember reading somewhere somebody saying where they had climbed over the Handsworth Church wall to get in free to see Johnny Dankworth in concert at Handsworth park. Sorry I have no idea now where I read it.
Phil died in 2020. RIP.

They also had a concert at the cinema (unable to recall its name) at the junction of Hagley Road and Wolverhampton Road in the 1950s.
