We are now heading for the bridge that used to cross the old canal spur, passing the bus depot as we go,  then we head towards the junction at Metchley Lane with a few shops on the left and the Golden Cross on the right.

I used to like to sit up the front on the old buses just behind the driver , it was always warmer up there
As a nipper in the winter I would put my cold feet on the warm hump on the floor/bulkhead that covered the back of the engine.  O0

Yes! And we were always chucked out at playtime! But we'd make slides in the snow - like glass - never be allowed now. We never hurt ourselves and always had fun.

We are now on Harborne Park Road very soon nearly at the High Street junction and the Kings Arms.

We then negotiate the double traffic islands at the end of the High Street, passing the Duke of York public house and turn into Lordswood Road passing the swimming baths as we go. The last place I ever swam in a public pool and it must be neary fifty years ago now,

Coming into my neck of the woods now. We used to go swimming there with my school Bartley Green Girls Grammar - I remember it very well. Used to have a cup of Oxo or Bovril on a cold day and a packet of Niblets! They were good baths. When I first married I lived in Lonsdale Road. I remember the Duke of York.... and the public loos in Harborne where we would nip in for an illegal ciggy!
