Opposite Wellington Road we see Winson Green Prison, built as a prison in 1849 but we can be forgiven for thinking it was once a castle from the look of this image although the old gatehouse has now been replaced by a new one. A little further on we come to Foundry Road opposite and then we look back from Handswoth New Road the way we have just traveled.

Phil yes this was the place in 1964 where Charles Wilson Great Train Robber fled to freedom, courtesy of an advert in the Evening Mail
I didn't buy the paper that day, but a neighbour lent me his copy . The ad read something like this Wilson in Winson vehicle ready about
4.00pm as I said its only rough recital but it definitely started Wilson in Winson  the vehicle by all accounts was on the other side of the wall he got over

We are now approaching the Soho Road junction at the end of Boulton Road, when reaching the junction we turn left onto Soho Road and we see the Red Lion public house on our left.

I had a friend who lived in Rookery Road.

Just before the Farcroft on the other side of the Road, Then the Farcroft itself, and then a little further up Rookery Road on the corner of Aylesford Road the Rookery Cinema that later became the Plaza and now has been replaced entirely by a large temple.

Phil we dealt with an electrical contractor in the 70's who's offices were in Rookery Rd they owed us money , we were told you'll get pound for pound . He owed us £20,000 , the day of the creditors meeting it ended up as 0.10p in the pound . That said a couple of weeks later he was up and running again under a different name

Limited Companies should never be allowed to take on more credit than the overall worth of the company, but if that were the case commerce would grind to a halt.

We are now reaching the end of Rookery Road as we pass Mervyn Road, and then the Methodist church and the the junction with Oxhill Road.
