Restaraunt near old Midland Hotel
« on: February 14, 2018, 06:46:28 PM »
can anyone tell me as a matter of urgency, the name of the old restaurant that was located near the Midland Hotel back in the 80’s or early 90’s.

It was located in the new Burlington Arcade.

I think it was beginning with the letter B

Any knowledge would be appreciated.

I don't know if The Burlington was still open in the 80's but that was in Burlington Passage at the New Street end.

I know The Bacchus bar is in the location that used to be the Burlington, and I have a memory of Bobby Browns being in the same location between the time of the Burlington and the Bacchus,  but I'm sorry I know very little of the city after the early to mid 70's.

Cheers Rob

I’ve just found out it’s still open as an American/Italian restaraunt which is only open for 5.5 hours a day and the building is owned by the owners of the Burlington Hotel.

Thanks for your help guys, greatly appreciated.

Carl are you talking about S & U, it wasn't really a department store but more a glorified warehouse for Tally Men, Wasn't it something to do with one of the directors of Birmingham City Football Club?

Hi Phil

I think you are right, it used to sell furniture etc, I remember dropping my now wife at the bus station  and looking into the shop, which is now the indoor meat and fish market.

I’ve watched the city change so much since I came here in 1976.

Thanks for your input Phil.
