Mapping Brum's lost buildings
« on: February 14, 2018, 10:02:13 PM »
Hi all,

I've started a map of Birmingham's lost buildings and I was wondering if it was a good idea to make it public for people to contribute to it. I used My Maps from Google so I'm thinking there might be better ways of doing it.
Also, I got most of the pics from Brumpic so I'm not too sure how it would work in terms of copyrights.
The map is a pretty good way of visualising where buildings used to be in the city and of comparing them with what our streets now look like. (you wouldn't believe the amount of people on Brumpic or the Bham History Forum who ask where buildings used to be located!)
Doing the map would be a bit of a mammoth task, even if focusing on the most outstanding buildings. And a lot of the buildings are quite tricky to locate due to the lack of information about them. So I thought a crowd sourced map might be useful and interesting.

And here's the map:[size=78%]1Nn7njaz3bQMaHL2JIGIQue-XZjzr28kk

just add www. at the beginning, sorry I had to bypass the forum rules!

Hello Andre, welcome to the forum. Sounds like an interesting piece of work. What is your motivation for this ' mammoth task' ?
