Dorrington 178 Soho Road
« on: April 05, 2018, 09:47:42 PM »
My Nan Helen Dorrington kept a newsagent 178 Soho Road Handsworth with Cyril my uncle. I never met my grandad John (Jack) he was goalie for Blues 1900? Nan left the shop around 1962- going back a bit!! They employed a lady called Margaret who had a sister Edith who also did a few hours . I remember Tibbets fishmonger opposite and Bains cake shop on same side. Any memories please !!!! Thanks

Hi Casca

Welcome to the forum, I don't thing we have any current members that come from the Handsworth area. I know we have had in the past. Hopefully one will look in on the forum and might have some memories tat they can share with you.

In the meantime here is a photo that shows the area around your grandmothers shop at roughly the time she was there. The photo just catches the edge of the shop on the right of the image, it's the one with the open sun blind.

It was Alberta that found out the information on the time at Small Heath, I'm afraid I'm not in to genealogy, so you thanks should go to her.
