Very patriotic I would think Ed.

Horton10, earlier today I was suddenly gripped by an overwhelming sense of dread  - at the thought of your cruel uprooting and transportation to beyond the boundaries of the civilised world (Norfolk) as a defenceless infant and how that act may have robbed us Brummies of the spectacle of you treading the boards as a child star at the Aston Hippodrome - The centre of the universe in the early 50s for Live Variety Theatre devotees. :-[

Fear not Peg ... I trod the boards a little in deepest Norfolk. Firstly as an Angel, then as an Hawaiian girl, then as Julius Caesar, then in Billy Liar, then in one or two farces like Sailor Beware, I'll Get My Man and Wanted One Body! .... and a very chaotic " Twelve Days of Christmas!"  But best of all I enjoyed helping putting on shows ... Am-dram and a lot of acts through the Creative Arts East project in our village hall ... they were good fun!
But, had I stayed in Birmingham ... then it would have most definitely been The Hippodrome ... outside on the pavement busking probably with my wash board!
 ;)

No prizes for getting this right, just the eternal(?  :-\ ) admiration of fellow members: In the 50s the Inner Circle 8 bus was regularly seen making its way along Heaton Street from the Hockley Brook end to The Flat but how can this be? - Heaton St was not on the Inner Circle 8 route.
Answer in a day or two.

Hint: Being out and about in Heaton St at 4.00pm everyday (except, perhaps, the sabbath) could have been hazardous to health. ???

SPOT ON. The bus depot was at the Hockley Brook end of Heaton St and each evening at 4.00pm (not Sundays) buses of all numbers would leave the depot to head for their routes by way of Heaton St, drivers testing their brakes as they proceeded to The Flat. Should the driver be unhappy with the handling of his bus he had the opportunity to turn right at the junction of Heaton St and Lodge Rd and after a short distance make another right into Ford St which would lead back to the depot.
