In the 50s there was a heavy vehicle breakers yard at the Hockley Brook end of Farm St, I was about 9 at the time and looking for a steering wheel for my go-cart but they had got nothing smaller than one for a bus, I didn't like to refuse the free gift but it dwarfed my cart and I returned later and threw it over the wall. I guess the yard is long gone.

Heaton Street: Named after Ralph Heaton, Birmingham Industrialist, founder of Heaton's Mint, which became The Birmingham Mint (Icknield Street) Link:  https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Birmingham_Mint

Hi there ... New to this Forum as of today. My grandparents lived in Heaton Street. I think we may be related. I had an Aunty Maud and Aunty Cissy ... Ring any bells? I really hope so. Many thanks.

Heaton Streeters - where are you getting your jabs? The Mission? New Life Church, Spring Hill Library?

In the 1950s I lived opposite the Heaton St entrance to Icknield St School and fully expected to attend there when I'd finished Infant & Junior School (Farm St), as  it turned out I actually attended Harry Lucas Senior School (formerly Burbury St School).
Both Farm St School and Harry Lucas School fell fowl of the bulldozer, does anyone know if Icknield St School has survived?

Peg - spoke to my sister in Australia this morning, she said she went to the infant and juniors school on Icknield Street and then to an all girls school in Handsworth. I'm still inclined to think my Mom went to a school very near to Heaton Street ... otherwise the cocoa would have been cold!  ;D  Regards.
