The long-heralded Beorma Tower, we’ve been waiting for years for it.
Has it been started yet?

I think they are still in the demolition & groundworks stage. They have said work should start 'late 2018'.

These are a couple of press items about it -

https://www.insidermedia.com/insider/midlands/work-to-start-on-birminghams-largest-office-tower

https://www.fmj.co.uk/gva-to-manage-birminghams-landmark-beorma-quarter/

And a link to the architects site.

http://www.trevorhorne.com/projects/urban-design/birmingham-beorma-quarter

Their blurb does say that the intention is to refurbish the cold store & keep some other frontages.

I went down Allison Street this afternoon and nothing has happened with the Beorma tower.
I don’t live in Birmingham any more, but I was struck by how shabby Brindley Place is becoming, especially by the canal and how third rate the new buildings are at the top of Suffolk St where the much-vaunted V Building was to have been. It looks like a block of flats with zero architectural merit.
What happened to our ambition. ?
Some of it could be Soviet Russia.

That's one of the problems with 'modern' buildings, they date & look shabby really quickly.  At least with the old classical styles they stand the test of time, mainly because they look old to start with!
